How I Paint
Layer 2 of typically around 40-60 for skin tones with golden paints. I start with a bold shadowed base.
Then, similar to a puff pasty dough, lots of thin layers painted slowly, almost translucent watered down paint to get the skin depths and shades as complex and mysterious as they are to the eye. How skin can change in different lights at different times of day or settings, even with different emotions, has always fascinated me while people watching.
As the largest organ it’s very expressive of someone’s mental state, health, and general aura.
Shockingly almost every skin tone has a base with purple, I get there usually by mixing traditional Phthalo Blue, Chromium Oxide Green, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Red, Burnt Umber, Yellow Ochre, and a touch of Zinc White cause that can wash out all those different colored shadows.
Stay tuned for the delicate layers to follow, then the eyes.
