I painted this one when I had just moved to Brooklyn. I was listening to "God Save our Young Bloods" a collaborative song by BØRNS and Lana del Ray.
I do that a lot, listen to one or two tracks on repeat for hours. I think it allows me to remain in the same headspace as when the idea for a piece comes to me.
My process is very emotional so its important I know and learn new ways to hold onto the initial emotion that sparks the idea. If I cant get back to that feeling, I think you can tell in the work. The highly emotional ones are always done within a month cause I cant let go of the thought or feeling and this allows me to figure it out a bit more.
"Living good, doing evil is the toss of the dice
Couple of wild eyes, cup full of high life
She's an angel and a devil of her own device,
she's got me spinning, spinning and I can't sit still"
-Kelly
“ I was reflecting on how simple life really is. When you strip away attempting to live up to all societal expectations and social norms to do your own thing its a lot more peaceful and fulfilling. “

“I take my dreams very seriously. This piece holds quite a few visual metaphors I use often to communicate the ebs and flows of my own world. My love, friendships, morals, trials can all be found throughout my work if you pay attention to the repetition of these easter eggs. Citrus fruits was on of the first ones that came to me.”
